UTICA — Utica City FC scored early and often en route to a 13-5 victory over the Mississauga MetroStars on Sunday afternoon at the Utica Aud.
Bo Jelovac scored four goals, Joey Tavernese and Logan Roberts scored twice, while Darren Toby, Stephen DeRoux, Lucio Gonzaga, Mauricio Salles and Nate Bourdeau all chipped in a goal each.
Slavisa Ubiparipovic collected three assists and Andrew Coughlin stopped four of the nine shots he faced in the victory.
Jelovac scored twice in the first two minutes for a 2-0 lead and never trailed.
Utica City is back in action on Feb. 22 in a rematch against the MetroStars.
Kickoff at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre is at 7:35 p.m.
Leading scorer re-signed
In a roster move before Sunday’s match, forward Slavisa Ubiparipovic signed a two-year contract extension.
Ubiparipovic, 31, is Utica’s leading goal-scorer with 16 goals on the season and 31 points. The Bosnian native has registered 54 shots on goal.
He is third in the league for points and tied for third in assists with 15.
He has scored in every home game this season.
