Unusual Clarity steals feature at Vernon Downs
VERNON — Unusual Clarity driven by Ron Harp slipped by late to capture the featured $6,500 fillies & mares’ pace on Friday at Vernon Downs.
The big favorite Special Olivia driven by Leon Bailey went right to the front as Unusual Clarity ($12.00) followed in the pocket. Special Olivia was first to the quarter in :28.2. She used a :29.1 second quarter to be first to the half in :57.3. The mare cruised to three-quarters in 1:25.3.
As they reached the stretch Unusual Clarity popped out of the pocket and went after Special Oliva. The two mares battled all the way down to the finish. Unusual Clarity got up to win in 1:54.2. Special Olivia had to settle for second. Milleniums Girl driven by Barton Dalious finished third.
Unusual Clarity is an 8-year-old mare by betterthancheddar. She is owned by Nicholas Gibides and trained by Harp. It was her third win this season. She now has 28 career victories.
Truman Gale and Barton Dalious each had driving doubles. The two were involved in a dead heat with Schwarber (Dalious) and With Our Luck (Gale).
Live racing returns to Vernon Downs at 6:05 p.m. Saturday with an 11-race card.
