Unity Hall program features author, inspirational speaker Kate Braestrup

BARNEVELD — Unity Hall will present Kate Braestrup, author of the New York Times Bestselling book, “Here If You Need Me,” among other non-fiction books and essays in a free virtual program at 8 p.m. Friday, June 18.

Braestrup will talk about her life and read from her latest book, “Anchors & Flares, A Memoir of Motherhood, Hope and Service.” There will be a discussion following the presentation. The Zoom program is free, but registration is required. For details and registration visit www.unityhall.com/rsvp.

A daughter of a foreign correspondent, Braestrup grew up around the world in Algiers, New York City, Paris, Bangkok, Washington, D.C. and Sabillasville, Md.

Educated as a writer and artist, her life has taken many dramatic twists and turns. In 1985, she married Drew Griffith who joined the Maine State Police shortly after their wedding. They settled on the mid-coast of Maine and started a family. A decade later, Braestrup’s life was turned upside down when she was suddenly widowed after Drew was killed on duty in a car accident. Left alone with four young children under the age of 9, her life was changed forever.

Inspired by her deceased husband’s dream to become a minister, Braestrup entered the Bangor Theological Seminary in 1997 and was ordained in 2004. She found her calling as chaplain to the Maine Warden Service joining the wardens as they search the wild lands and fresh waters of Maine for those who have lost their way.

She also serves to offer comfort for those who wait for the ones they love to be rescued, or for their bodies to be recovered.

Braestrup is the author of several non-fiction books including: Here if You Need Me, Beginner’s Grace, Marriage and Other Acts of Charity, and Anchors & Flares. To learn more about her work visit http://www.katebraestrup.com/aboutWork.html.
