Two teenagers charged with trying to shoot another person in Utica
UTICA — Two Utica teenagers have been taken into custody for shooting at another person on Bleecker Street Monday afternoon, according to the Utica Police Department.
Police said two 17-year-old males were spotted bicycling on Bleecker Street around 2:15 p.m. Monday when they jumped off their bikes, pulled out handguns and opened fire at another person at the intersection of Bleecker and Second streets. No one was hit.
An officer was in the area at the time and witnessed the shooting attempt. Police said the officer gave chase and radioed for backup. Both teens were taken into custody a short time later and both handguns were recovered, authorities stated.
The identities of the two teens were not released due to their young ages.
Both teens are charged with one count each of first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm, police stated. They are both scheduled to appear in court.
