HAMILTON — Colgate scored twice in the first period and beat St. Lawrence, 3-2, in ECAC hockey play Friday night.
Midway though the first the Raiders scored a pair of goals in a 38-second span. John Snodgrass got them on the board 8:43 into the game. Bobby McMann swept the puck around the crease tempting the St. Lawrence goaltender out of position and drawing a penalty. He passed across the paint to Snodgrass, who looped around the back of the goal ready to tuck the puck across the line on the unattended net.
After the scoring play earned the Raiders a power play, Colgate capitalized with the man advantage 38 seconds in for a 2-0 lead.
Paul Meyer fed the puck up from behind the net to center ice. Jacob Panetta beat the goalie five-hole.
Colgate gave up a power play goal as St. Lawrence drew within one.
Hunter Racine battled for a rebound and capitalized on a loose puck at the edge of the crease and scored his first of the season for the Raiders’ 3-1 lead.
With minutes left on the clock St. Lawrence pulled its goaltender and was able to use the extra skater to narrow it to a one-goal game, but the Raiders defense held on for a 3-2 win.
Racine earned his first goal of the season for the game-winner.
Freshman netminder Mitch Benson made 23 saves to earn the win.
