FENNER — Two people were killed in a house fire in Madison County shortly after midnight on Thursday, according to Madison County Emergency Management.

Authorities said the alarm was raised at about 12:30 a.m. Thursday for a house fire at 3205 Larkin Road.

Authorities said two residents were trapped inside the home during the fire and responding volunteers were able to pull them free — only for the pair to later die from their injuries.

Their identities were not released.

Crews from eight local departments responded to the scene and battled the fire for about an hour before the flames were under control, authorities stated.

Crews then remained on the scene for several hours dousing hot spots and cleaning up the scene.

Madison County Fire Coordinator Doug Shattuck said the home did not have working smoke alarms.

He said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Cazenovia, Smithfield, Morrisville, Lincoln, Erieville, Fayetteville, Manlius and New Woodstock fire departments responded to the scene.
