A man and woman have both been charged after getting into a fight with police officers on East Bloomfield Street in Rome shortly after midnight on Saturday, according to law enforcement officials.
Police said they were dispatched to the 100 block of E. Bloomfield St. at about 12:15 a.m. Saturday for a reported fight. Police said they found at least four people fighting on a sidewalk, and two men fled the scene.
Police said Kenneth R. Boyer, 27, and Shannon R. Sierant, 24, both of Henry Street, remained on the scene. Police said Boyer lunged at one of the responding officers and tried to punch him in the face. Police said Boyer shoved the officer and tried to run.
Boyer was subdued as he continued to struggle with the officers, police stated. Then Sierant jumped on the back of the officer to try and interfere, authorities said.
Sierant was detained by another officer, and authorities said Sierant tried to punch the other officer from the ground.
Boyer and Sierant are both charged with one count each of second-degree harassment and resisting arrest, police said. Sierant is additionally charged with one count of second-degree obstruction of a governmental administration, police stated. Both are scheduled to appear in City Court.
