Two area girls basketball programs joining forces

The Rome Lady Rebels and the Tri-Valley Thunder Girls AAU programs are joining forces in the hope of better serving Rome and surrounding communities.

Jonathan Roland and Bruce Hairston, directors of the organizations, came to an agreement after meeting and decided it was in both organizations’ best interest to combine, they said in a joint statement released Thursday.

The new name will be the Tri-Valley Rebels, and it is open to all girls in grades 5-12.

Tryouts for grades 5-10 are at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2 at Staley Elementary School. Those in grades 11 or 12, or currently playing varsity basketball, will try out at a later date so as not to interfere with the school season and sectionals.

A website is being created that will represent the changes. All inquiries can be directed to or through the Facebook page for the Rome Lady Rebels.
