The Common Council will be able to approve a total of $185,000 for four capital improvement projects at its meeting Wednesday — security cameras, two trucks for the fire department and a truck for Animal Control.
The seven-member council will meet at 7 p.m. in the council chambers.
The meeting will be preceded by a public hearing at 6:50 p.m. on extension of the tax exemption for veterans of the Cold War.
The exemption covers those who served in the armed forces from Sept. 2, 1945 to Dec. 26, 1991 and were discharged or released under honorable conditions. The exemption is for up to 10 years.
The change would remove the 10-year limitation in favor allowing the exemption for as long as the veteran owns the property and lives there. Oneida County has already removed the limit.
The exemption is for 10 percent of a property’s assessed value, capped at $6,000, the same cap used by the county. From that amount, the city adjusts it based on the equalization rate.
The bonding would fund:
• Pole security cameras a city parks. The cost would be $48,000. The cameras would be in Franklyn’s Field, Gryziec Field, Guyer Field, Haselton Wright Park, Thron Park, Pinti Field, Stevens Field and the parking lot at Kennedy Arena.
• A truck for the Animal Control Department. The cost would be $32,000. This would replace a 2006 Chevrolet 1500 extended cab truck.
• A fire rescue truck for treatment and transport of sick or injured people. The cost would be $70,000. This would replace Rescue One, a 205 Ford F-550 with just shy of 100,000 miles on it.
• A pickup truck with plow for the fire department. The cost would be $35,000. This would replace a 2011 Ford truck with plow.
The council could also approve $2,605,000 in bonding to fund the annual street repair project. Bids for the primary contract are due at 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 14, in the Clerk’s Office at City Hall. They will be opened immediately after that.
