Trophies presented at Utica Youth Bureau golf clinic in memory of PGA Pro Gene Taylor

UTICA — Children who participated in the Utica Youth Bureau Golf Clinic were treated to an outing on Wednesday at Valley View Country Club.

The program teaches children, ages 6-14, the basic skills and fundamentals of golf.

Six children were presented with Gene Taylor awards based on not only their performance but also their golf etiquette throughout the summer clinics.

Taylor’s widow June Taylor, their daughter Linda–Taylor Doxtader and their family have donated trophies to the Utica Youth Bureau Golf Clinic for 18 years in memory of the PGA Professional.

Gene dedicated a lot of his focus on juniors by providing golf lessons, clinics and tournaments and always emphasising the rules along with the importance of golf etiquette.

He especially enjoyed their growth and development as they became competitive and acquired lasting friendships along the way.

Gene was a local PGA pro throughout the area, but was mostly remembered at Cedar Lake Country Club in Clayville, Thendara Club in Thendara, and Mohawk Valley Country Club in Little Falls.
