Trio airlifted following head-on crash on Route 81

ALEXANDRIA BAY — A driver was airlifted with injuries following a head-on crash southbound on Route 81 near Exit 45 Saturday evening.

State police said Suzanne M. Beardmore, 64, of Watertown, was northbound in the southbound lane in her 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer when she struck a 2008 Pontiac, driven by Dwayne G. Cunningham, 35, of Fort Drum, head-on at 5:22 p.m.

Cunningham had to be extricated from his vehicle and was airlifted to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse with non-life threatening injuries, troopers said.

Beardmore and her 27-year-old passenger were transported by ambulance to River Hospital in Alexandria Bay for evaluation.

Beardmore was charged with driving the wrong way on a one-way, operating without insurance and disobeying a traffic control device.
