A trash fire at the Oneida Herkimer Solid Waste Authority facility in Utica was doused by firefighters Wednesday evening.
Fire officials said there was a report of heavy, black smoke at the Leland Avenue facility at about 6:15 p.m. Wednesday. Responding firefighters found a 30-foot-tall pile of trash on fire and they began to knock it down.
Authorities said the fire spread into a nearby building through the ventilation fans, and that extension was also quickly extinguished.
Solid Waste Authority officials also assisted by tearing down the pile so that firefighters could reach all the remaining hot spots.
No one was injured, fire officials said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
