Traffic stop leads to drug charges


ONEIDA — A traffic stop on the Thruway in Madison County on Sunday uncovered eight ounces of marijuana, according to law enforcement officials.

State police said Benjamin M. Sherman, 22, of Ithaca, was pulled over for a traffic violation on the Thruway in Oneida at 12:45 p.m. Sunday. Once stopped, troopers said Sherman was interviewed and his vehicle was searched, and they found approximately eight ounces of marijuana.

Sherman is charged with one count of fourth-degree possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor, troopers said.

He was released on an appearance ticket for City Court on June 12.
