Too many elected officials stay in office too long

Posted

How long is too long? In a country where the President can only serve eight years. Why should any elected official be able to serve any more? I believe it was Lord Acton in 1887 that coined the phrase “power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely”.

The longer a person remains in office the more isolated and insulated they become to the needs of the common citizen. They become complacent and with complacency comes stagnation. Instead of being the voice of the people, they become the tools of special interest! It’s time we recapture our government and restore it back to the people. So the next time you go to vote, ask yourself, how long is too long?
