VERNON — Tokyo Seelster and driver Truman Gale won Saturday's featured $10,000 Open 1 Trot at Vernon Downs.

Tokyo Seelster ($16.40) was first to the quarter in 27.1 seconds. Joxter (Dan Daley) wrestled the lead away as they reached the top of the back stretch and led to the half in 56 seconds. Lepanto (Leon Bailey) made a move going around the final turn but sputtered out. Joxter led to three-quarters in 1:25.1.

As they made the turn for home Tokyo Seelster came after the leader. Joxter could not hold off Tokyo Seelster who won in a lifetime best of 1:53.2. Joxter had to settle for second. Hotfoot Hannah (Dylan Huckabone-Miller) finished third.

Tokyo Seelster is a 4-year-old horse by Kadabra. He is owned by Michael Sergi and trainer Sam Sergi. It was his third win this season and he now owns nine career victories.

Steeven Genois and Frank Affrunti each had driving doubles on the card.

Racing returns to Vernon Downs on Friday.
