The city will begin the Thursday green waste route on Thursday, April 25 for bulk leaf collection, according to an announcement by the Department of Public Works.
Leaves must be placed behind the curb, not in the street. Leaves raked into the street cause traffic problems and storm sewer backups, the city says.
Leaves raked to the curb or in containers should not have stones or rubbish mixed in with them.
Contractors are responsible for their own disposal; leaves put to the curb by contractors will be left at the curb, the city’s announcement added.
After bulk leaf collection is completed, all green waste must be containerized in either 30 gallon containers or 30 gallon 100 percent biodegradable lawn and leaf paper bags.
No plastic bags will be accepted. City workers will not perform bulk leaf collection for any route more than once.
