VERONA — Three Vernon-Verona-Sherrill school district students were awarded Silver Keys at the Scholastic Art Show, which invites teachers to submit student works from Potsdam to Herkimer to Marathon to Rochester, the VVS district announced.
Silver Keys are regional awards for standout works that demonstrate exceptional ability, the district noted.
VVS junior Abbygail Coston plus seniors Elijah Creedon and Julia Kaar were selected from among thousands of applicants for the prestigious award, said the district.
VVS art teacher Kayla McDonough was proud of the students’ efforts, noting “out of 5,500 submissions, only 1,800 pieces were chosen to receive gold and silver keys. The students’ work is incredible and inspiring — the best of the best” in Central New York. She added “it’s an incredible honor.”
The students’ works are being displayed from now until March 1
at Onondaga Community College in the Whitney Applied Technology Center, on Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. along with Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m.-
The VVS district offered “congratulations to these outstanding artists.”
