Three local marching bands place in state competition

SYRACUSE — Three local marching bands placed in their respective division during the New York State Field Band Conference 50th annual Field Band Championship Show on Sunday at Syracuse University’s JMA Dome.

More than 5,000 high school band members total participated as 53 high school marching bands competed in a variety of divisions from the large school categories to ones for smaller schools.

Local schools competing were:

• Rome Free Academy in the Large School 3 class;

• New Hartford Central School in the Small School 1 class; and

• Westmoreland Central School in the Small School 2 class.

There were 22 judges scoring the 14 hours of competition, with the smallest band featuring 27 members and the largest band 190 members.

Placement and scores for each local school:

• New Hartford Central School: 2nd place with 93.150; and

• Westmoreland Central School: 2nd place (tie with Phoenix) with 88.400.
