Three displaced in early morning Utica fire
UTICA — Three people have been displaced following a fire in a fourth floor apartment at the Lillian Cooper Apartments in Utica early Wednesday, according to the Utica Fire Department.
Fire officials said the alarm was raised at 5:41 a.m. due to heavy smoke pouring from the fourth floor on the south side of the building at 276 Genesee St. Responding firefighters launched a search for occupants, while engaging in fire suppression efforts.
All occupants of the building escaped without injury, officials stated. Firefighters worked to ventilate the smoke from the third and fourth floors. Authorities said the fire damage was contained to a single apartment.
Three residents in the building have been displaced from their apartments, authorities said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
