As we reflect on past Woodstock-type concerts the lessons come from experiences:
1) capacity needs to be managed;
2) security needs to be where provided where they might be needed; and
3) inside the venue support services must be capable of handling the load.
The Woodstock concert at Griffiss was highly successful. We were there. We shot a 72-minute video of the event from start to finish.
You wouldn’t know the success from the sensational reporting by all but two local newspapers.
That doesn’t surprise us. Media reporting has been in decline for the last 50 years.
The issue at hand is whether there should be another Woodstock-type concert in the area. Vernon Downs is a site being considered. Excellent.
As we understand, it is being considered to be less of a free-for-all of the original Woodstock, and more like a Phish or Springsteen event.
In any case, it makes sense to meet now to assure all parties agree how to make it safe and successful.
The last one was good for business, good for entertainment, and many people came out of Woodstock ’99 with positive memories.
