LETTER: The reasons we don’t need new gun laws

It is estimated that there are over 400 million guns in America. Let that sink in: 400,000,000 plus!!! That is a lot of guns, by any measure!

So if it were a gun problem we would have mass shootings, daily, hourly, perhaps every minute!

What we have is a people problem – not a gun problem! The mass shootings are carried out by mostly young males, filled with hate and rage, and mental illness, with no sense of belonging, or any other ability to become “somebody.” Violent videos, movies rap music and gaming, undermine any thoughts they may have had about belonging, or the sanctity of life!

New gun laws aren’t going to fix those people. And unless the laws are changed so that their family members, and acquaintances can come forward, to bring to light their potential danger, there is no stopping them! For example, In Chicago, via gun laws, they have made it nearly impossible to obtain a legal firearm! Yet, every week in Chicago, more people shot and/or murdered, than in your average mass shootings in the U.S. We need to fix the people.

Totally agree. Also, we had a ten year "assault weapons" ban to demonstrate how effective the ban is. There was no noticeable change in the crime statistics so it was not renewed. Trying the same thing over and over and expecting different results is insane.
