OLD FORGE — Enchanted Forest Water Safari, New York’s largest water theme park, will not open for the 2020 season, the popular summer attraction announced today on its website.

Enchanted Forest Water Safari, whose popular jingle touts the facility as the place “where the fun never stops,” had been in the midst of a major renovation project, with three new water slides set to be unveiled this season before being shuttered a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We at Enchanted Forest Water Safari are now making the extremely difficult announcement not to open for the 2020 season. We invested a lot of time, effort and expense in preparing to open safely and responsibly. Unfortunately, we have not been allowed the opportunity to provide our guests with a safe and fun family experience this summer,” said the announcement.

“We’d like to thank our loyal guests for their support and patience through this difficult process. We are looking forward to seeing you in the summer of 2021, when we will be able to introduce our three new rides,” it added.

The park had set a target opening date of June 27, but pushed that back as it sought approval from the state to open as part of the phased economic reopening.

While it awaited authorization to operate, crews at the facility constructed of three new rides — Mamba Strike, Serengeti Stampede and Killermanjaro’s Revenge, replacing a trio of older water slides in the park. The park had received $500,000 in funding for the project from the Empire State Development Corporation.

In addition to the closure for the season, the park also outlined its policies for park reservation, ticket and cabana rental cancellations. They are:

Park reservations only – Those with a reservation for this summer do not need to take any action, and your reservation will be automatically canceled.

Park reservations and tickets – Reservations will be automatically canceled. Any tickets purchased do not expire. Hold on to them, the park announcement said, and they will be accepted in the future regardless of the date.

Cabana Reservations – Those with a 2020 Cabana reservation, should call Water Safari at 315-369-6145 to move the reservation forward to 2021 or to cancel the reservation.

Season Pass Holders– All 2020 Season Passes will automatically be valid for the 2021 Season. Those who purchased a 2020 Season Pass on or before July 30 will still receive the additional discount on In-Park purchases, the half price coupons and the free any day VIP ticket. “There is nothing you need to do except wait until next year to join us for the 2021 summer and try our three new water slides,” the announcement added.

“We sincerely thank you for your patience and loyalty as we continue through this difficult and unprecedented time,” the announcement, signed by the Enchanted Forest Water Safari Team, said.

It added that the Water’s Edge Inn and Old Forge Camping Resort are open and inviting guests to experience all Old Forge has to offer, including shopping, restaurants, hiking, biking, boating, paddling and other activities.
