UTICA — Two teenagers are facing multiple charges following a brief vehicle and foot pursuit in Utica late Monday night, according to the Utica Police Department.

Police said two 17-year-old males were spotted in a stolen vehicle in the city at about 10 p.m. Monday. The vehicle had been reported stolen only about an hour earlier.

Officers attempted to pull over the vehicle, and police said the teens hit the gas and sped away, leading officers on a brief chase. Both teens then jumped out of the car and tried to run away, only to get caught and taken into custody a short time later.

A loaded .22-caliber handgun was found near one of the teens when he was taken into custody, police said.

The identities of the two men were not released due to their young ages.

The teen near the gun was charged with second-degree possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, police said. The other teen was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, police stated. They are both scheduled to appear in Oneida County Family Court.
