UTICA — A 15-year-old boy in Utica is facing multiple charges after attacking a girl with a brick and getting into a severe crash several weeks apart, according to the Utica Police Department.

Police said the teenager was involved in an altercation in late September in which a young woman was struck in the head with a brick. The teen was joined by two other juveniles, police stated. Their identities were not released due to their young ages.

While that assault was under investigation, police said the 15-year-old was the driver of a vehicle that caused a crash with another vehicle at Eagle Street and Brinckerhoff Avenue at about 2:15 a.m. Oct. 15. The driver of the other vehicle suffered critical injuries and was treated at a Utica hospital, authorities said.

The 15-year-old was released to the care of his parents while the crash was reconstructed and investigated. Police said two passengers in his vehicle had fled the scene after the crash.

On Nov. 16, police said the teen was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment for the crash, and second-degree assault for the attack with the brick. The other teens involved in the attack were also charged with second-degree assault, a class D felony, authorities said.

All three teens are scheduled to appear in Oneida County Family Court.
