A Utica teenager has been taken into custody for defacing the statue of Christopher Columbus on two separate occasions, according to an announcement by law enforcement and city
Utica Police said the Columbus statue at the corner of Mohawk and Parkway streets was defaced with graffiti and lewd images on Sept. 28 and Oct. 7. Following an investigation, police said they were able to identity a 17-year-old male who was responsible for both incidents.
The teenager, whose identity was not released due to his young age, was taken into custody on Oct. 13, police stated. He is scheduled to appear in City Court.
