UTICA — A Utica teenager is facing weapons charges after being found with a loaded handgun on Oneida Street Friday evening, according to the Utica Police Department.

Police said they were investigating a shots fired incident from Thursday night when they stopped and questioned two men in the 1600 block of Oneida Street around 6 p.m. Friday. When they stopped the pair, police said one of the males began reaching towards his waistband in a suspicious manner.

The officers stopped the man and frisked him, finding a loaded, 9mm handgun in the waistband of his pants, police stated.

The man was identified as a 16-year-old, police said, and his identity was not released due to his young age. He is charged with one count each of second-degree possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm, police stated. He is scheduled to appear in court.

Police said it is not yet known if the teen was involved in the shots fired incident on Washington Street from Thursday, Aug. 25. That incident remains under investigation.
