Teen arrested in Utica shooting

An 18-year-old Utica man has been taken into custody for an “inadvertent” shooting on Brinckerhoff Avenue last month.

Police said Lloyd Durant and his associate, 21-year-old Mohamedamin Hayder, were walking along Brinckerhoff Avenue on May 21 when they became involved in an altercation with another group. During the incident, police said Durant displayed a handgun, only to “inadvertently” shoot Hayder in the pelvis. He is charged with one count of second-degree assault, second-degree possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm, police said.

Durant is scheduled to appear in City Court.
