Teen accused of punching police officer
ROME - A Rome teenager is accused of punching a police officer during a scuffle with another man on West Dominick Street Monday morning, according to the Rome Police Department.
Police said they were called to a residence in the 900 block at about 11:30 a.m. Monday for suspicious activity. While speaking with people on the scene, police said Ernest H. Fancher Jr., 19, appeared and started yelling at one of the people.
Officers attempted to get Fancher to leave, at which point another man came out of the residence and seemed to watch to fight Fancher, police stated. Officers continued to try to break up the two men.
Police said Fancher swung at the other man and ended up punching an officer instead. Fancher was taken into custody.
Fancher is charged with one count each of third-degree assault, second-degree harassment and disorderly conduct, police stated.
He is scheduled to appear in Rome City Court.
