Teen accused of making threat of school violence at VVS

VERONA — An Oneida teen-ager was charged with making threats of school violence toward Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School Monday.

State Police at Oneida said Eric J. Mahler, 19, called a girl who attends the high school on Sunday evening and threatened to “shoot up” the school and also harm her parents.

Troopers said as a precautionary measure, all of the school buildings in the district were placed on lock-out. Investigators interviewed Mahler, who did not have any access to weapons and determined that the threat was not credible, law enforcement said.

Mahler was taken into custody and charged with making a terrorist threat, a class D felony, and second-degree aggravated harassment, a class A misdemeanor.

He was processed at State Police at Oneida barracks and transported to county jail for Centralized Arraignment.
