Ted M. Barnum, 88, of Blossvale, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at St. Elizabeth’s Healthcare. Born in Utica on September 21, 1932, he was a son of the late Arthur and Gertrude (McMahon) Barnum. He was a 1951 graduate of Utica Free Academy. On June 23, 1980, he was united in marriage to Janice McMichael.
Ted served his country during the Korean War in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956. After being honorably discharged from the service, he had a long career working for Niagara Mohawk (National Grid) in Rome and Utica before retiring.
Ted enjoyed eating dinner out, especially with a nice glass of wine. He spent many good times at the camp in Old Forge, NY.
Surviving besides his wife, Janice, is a daughter and son-in-law, Sandy (Dino) Righi of OH; a brother, Alan (Ann) Barnum of Rome; and two grandchildren, Dr. Angela (Andrew) Barsa of OH and Gianna Righi of OH; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves his wife’s son Randy (Denise) Chandler and daughters Kristy Chandler, Sharon (Martin) McNamara and Carol Pollard; 12 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Lois Luther, and brother, Donald Barnum; also his wife’s son Ron McMichael.
Due to the Covid-19 virus, a celebration of life will be held at a later date. There are no calling hours. The family suggests donations to American Heart Association or Alzheimer’s Association, or a charity of your choice.
