Syracuse’s Girard and Mintz to headline Sitrin Wheelchair Basketball Game

Posted

UTICA — The Sitrin Foundation will hold its 19th annual Celebrity Classic Wheelchair Basketball game on Thursday, April 20, at 6:30 p.m., in the Utica University Clark Athletic Center.

Proceeds, which support Sitrin’s STARS adaptive sports program, will fund the purchase of new sports wheelchairs and equipment, and help offset training and competition expenses for STARS athletes.

Headlining this year’s game are Syracuse University men’s basketball standouts Joseph Girard III and Judah Mintz. The all-time leading scorer in New York State Public High School Athletic Association history, Girard has had a successful basketball career with the Orange. Leading the team with 17 points per game, he has accumulated more than 1,600 career points placing him in the top-20 of Syracuse basketball all-time scorers. Freshman Mintz has emerged as an offensive threat for the Orange. Averaging 16 points and fiveassists per game, he is currently one of the top scoring freshmen in the nation.

“We are thrilled to present the 19th Celebrity Classic,” Marc DePerno, director of the STARS program, said. “The Sitrin STARS are excited to showcase their abilities and are incredibly appreciative of the support they receive from the community.”

Two fans will have a chance to compete against Girard and Mintz in a three-point competition during halftime. There will also be a silent auction of sports memorabilia, a 50/50 raffle, and free autographs during the second half of the game.

Tickets, which can be purchased online or at the door, are $10 for adults 18 years of age and older, and $5 for students of any age. Children under five years old are free. For ticket information, visit www.sitrin.com/celebrityclassic.
