WESTMORELAND — A freestanding surgery center is now open at its newly constructed offices off Route 233.
Apex Surgical Center specializes in orthopedic and plastic surgery, as well as pain management.
The first procedures were done July 14, according to officials at the new surgical center. None of the operations done here require overnight stays by patients.
The center has two pain management procedure rooms and four operating rooms. Twelve surgeons operate at the facility that has a staff of 15 employees, business officials added.
Geoffrey Smith, the administrator, said the center provides local access to specialized surgeons.
The center is jointly owned and operated by Oneida Healthcare, Hamilton Orthopedic
Surgery, Genesee Orthopedics & Plastic Surgery Associates,
and Spinal & Skeletal Pain
Apex received its operating certificate from the state Department of Health July 10.
The facility was opposed by Rome Memorial Hospital when Apex was undergoing regulatory review at the state level. Rome Memorial is a partner in the Griffiss Eye Surgery Center.
