TOWN OF MARCY — The SUNY Polytechnic Institute student who suffered a serious medical emergency earlier this month has died from her injuries, according to college officials.
Fardush Sultana, from Hudson, Columbia County, suffered a medical episode in her dorm room on Saturday, April 16, then was found two days later and was taken to the hospital, according to college officials. The state police investigated the incident and confirmed that Sultana suffered a medical episode and was not the victim of any crime.
Sultana died from her injuries this week, according to a message from interim President Grace Wang.
“As we struggle to understand this significant loss, it is important that we come together as one campus community and take time to be there for one another,” Wang wrote in her statement.
“While we grieve, each of us will experience a range of feelings and responses.”
Sultana was a junior civil engineering major. She was active in the After Hours Activity Board and the Black and Latino Student Association, and was a student-athlete on the cross country team.
A candlelight vigil for Sultana was held Thursday night on campus.
