SUNY Polytechnic Institute has risen in the 2018 rankings of colleges by U.S. News & World Report, announced SUNY Poly.

The publication ranked SUNY Poly 15th among Best Colleges in the Regional Universities North category, up from a 2017 ranking of 18th.

SUNY Poly remained 3rd in Top Public Regional Universities North for the second straight year, and rose to sixth for Best Colleges for Veterans amid Regional Universities North.

The rankings are “truly a wonderful affirmation that this institution offers a valuable education, and we hope it encourages prospective students to take a deeper look at all that SUNY Poly has to offer them,” said SUNY Poly interim President Bahgat Sammakia.

In the U.S. News rankings, schools are grouped based on their Carnegie Classification, created by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, said SUNY Poly. Among the categories for rankings are graduation and retention, assessment of excellence, plus faculty and financial resources.

SUNY Poly said it has seen increased enrollment over the past year in programs such as Interactive Media and Game Design as well as both the graduate and undergraduate nursing programs. It has continued to expand programs and course offerings, according to college officials.
