Samuel Platt’s students in grades 9 and 10 are part of the Project Lead the Way Design and Drawing for Production class. One of this semester’s projects is to design and create a puzzle cube.
In the pictures you can see some of the students with their final drawings.
The drawings had to include isometric views of the individual parts as well as the different layers for the cube.
Prior to this activity, the students had to master drawing an isometric pictorial, and complete the various steps in the design process from brainstorming solutions to dealing with problem constraints and eventually drawing and deciding which parts would make up the cube.
The students’ next step in this project is learning how to use CAD (computer aided drawing) software so they can make a 3D printed version of their cube.
