The Michelle Adey Memorial Fund recently received a grant of $750 from the Stewart’s Holiday Match Program to help support its mission of helping children in our area.
The Stewart’s Holiday Match program collects donations from all of its shops between Thanksgiving and Christmas to be used for helping children under 18 years of age. Charities then apply to be considered for a grant.
The Michelle fund is named for Michelle Adey, daughter of Romans Mary Carmel Wolf and Mike Adey, who died of cystic fibrosis in 1982 at age six. Since that time, the fund named for her has helped families whose children suffer from serious life-threatening illnesses with expenses such as travel, food and lodging.
Families received $31,000 in grants last year from the Michelle fund. Since the Fund started in it has disbursed over $800,000 to assist families in need in the central New York area. This 501 c(3) organization is run by an all volunteer board, and administrative expenses are consistently below 2%.
