Stevens is Officer of the Month

Patrolman Eric A. Stevens has been named the Rome Police Department’s Officer of the Month for June.

Officials said Stevens responded to a motor vehicle accident at 4:30 a.m. June 7 and found the vehicle overturned and the driver trapped and unconscious inside.

Authorities said Stevens used a sledgehammer to break through the windshield, allowing him to turn off the vehicle and for rescue personnel to safely remove the driver.

Officials said Stevens then charged the driver with driving while intoxicated.

Stevens is also a member of the Forensic Team and the Special Response Team, where he is “one of the most proactive officers on his shift,” officials said.

Stevens joined the department in March 2014.
