Steve Slachta, 99, of North Fort Myers, Florida passed away Sunday June 23, 2019. He was born on March 17, 1920 in Czechoslovakia to Michael and Justina (Pavlic) Slachta.
In 1937, Steve came to New York City where he met and married Mary Havrilec on November 2, 1940, a beloved union of 68 years. He was a WWII Army Veteran, serving in Saipan. Steve and Mary moved to Vernon, NY and then to Florida after he retired from Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome. They enjoyed walks, going to the beach, and dancing. He was an avid reader and a history buff.
Steve is survived by his three children, Steven and Yvonne Slachta of Bonita Springs, FL, Joan and Bruce Small of Rome, NY, and Ann Slachta of North Fort Myers, FL; grandchildren, Amy and Mike O’Shaughnessy, Holly and Marc Kohli, and Vanessa and Ryan Marquette; and great-grandchildren, Tanner and Timothy Hill, Joshua and Sean Kohli; a sister-in-law Vivian Slachta and nephew Nicholas and Wendy Slachta of PA. He is predeceased by his wife, parents, and brothers John, Michael, Metro, and Nicholas Slachta.
Funeral services will be held at St. Therese Catholic Church in North Fort Myers, FL on July 8 at 11 a.m.
