Stella O. Charny, 97, of Rochester and formerly of Rome, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2019 at St. Ann’s Community in Irondequoit. Born in Rome on March 14, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Josephine (Podolec) Yaworski. She was a 1939 graduate of Rome Free Academy and on October 27, 1945 she was united in marriage to Emilo “Emy” Charny. He passed away on August 22, 2002.
Stella was a hairdresser and also worked at Loomis Manufacturing. She was a former member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Rome.
Stella is survived by two sons, Gene Charny and his partner Lisa of Newton, MA and Edwin Charny of Irondequoit; one sister, Helen (Stanley) Chilkotowski of Rome; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Marie Byrnes, and a brother Mayfred “Matt” Yaworski.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 11th at 12:00 p.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome. Interment will take place in Rome Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday prior to the service from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
