Steet Ponte Autogroup hosts 5th annual Coats for Kids drive

UTICA — The Steet Ponte Autogroup is hosting its fifth annual Coats for Kids coat drive to benefit children in local elementary schools.

The coat drive runs through Tuesday, Nov. 1, and is looking for items like snow pants, coats, hats, scarves and gloves, from sizes 5T to id’s XL. The schools are looking for new items, from local stores like the Children’s Place, TJ Maxx, Carter’s, Boscov’s and others.

Steve Cater, a sales manager at Steet Ponte Ford, said there has been a lot of donations so far, and that coat drive has been growing to be bigger and better every year.

“I don’t think there’s anything worse than to not have a warm coat to wear when it gets cold out, or not having a coat that fits you,” Cater said. “It’s just a nice thing to do for the community.”

Drop-off locations in Oneida County are Steet Ponte stores on Commercial Drive, including Steet Toyota of Yorkville, Steet Ponte Nissan, Steet Ponte Mazda, Steet Ponte Ford Lincoln, Steet Ponte VW and United Auto Sales of Utica.

Items donated to these stores will be given to children in Utica and Rome elementary schools.

In Herkimer County, the drop-off location is the Steet Ponte Chevy on Route 28, and donations will go to children who go to Herkimer and Central Valley Academy elementary schools.

Visitors can drop off their donations during business hours, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Fridays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
