State prison inmate dies after testing positive for tuberculosis
MARCY — An inmate at the Marcy Correctional Facility has died after spending a day in the hospital with tuberculosis, according to the state Department of Corrections.
The exact cause of death is pending an autopsy. The state is investigating the death and said there is no sign that the tuberculosis spread to other people. The identity of the inmate was not released.
Officials said the inmate was receiving treatment at the St. Elizabeth campus of the Mohawk Valley Health system on May 2 when they tested positive for tuberculosis. The inmate then died the following day, officials said. An autopsy has been ordered through the Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office.
The investigation is ongoing between the state police and the Corrections Office of Special Investigation.
