SCHUYLER — An 18-month-old child was killed when she ran out in front of her mother’s SUV in the driveway of their Herkimer County home, according to the New York State Police.

Troopers said the mother and young daughter had just arrived at their home on Bull Road in Schuyler at about 10:30 a.m. Monday, having been out buying groceries.

While the mother brought the groceries inside, troopers said the girl was playing outside on a playset.

Once the groceries were finished, police said the mother got back into the SUV and began to pull forward to park — which is when the child ran in front of the vehicle and was run over.

The mother immediately took the child inside to render aid and to call 911, troopers said.

The child was rushed to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica, where she was pronounced dead.

State police said no charges are expected against the mother. The incident remains under investigation.
