American Legion officials and families across Oneida County will welcome native son David R. Riley Sr. and other state legion officials on Sunday, Oct. 2, when Riley makes an official visitation as the Department of New York commander.

Riley will be accompanied by Department Auxiliary President Nancy Babis and Sons of the American Legion Detachment Commander Timothy S. Van Patten II.

The leaders begin the day with coffee and doughnuts at Smith Post 24 in Rome, where they will meet with legion family members.

Next they will tour facilities at Griffiss Park before concluding their visit with festivities at Oriskany Post 1448, attended by legion family members from American Legion posts, units and squadrons from across the county.

Social hour starts at 1 p.m. with the program getting underway at 2 p.m.

A barbecue dinner will follow.

Serving as hosts for their visit are Oneida County Commander Edward Jackson, Oneida County Auxiliary President Peg Martin and Oneida County Sons of the American Legion Commander Larry Rieben.
