Stars & Stripes Run-Walk to benefit Sitrin military program
MARCY — Sitrin Health Care Center will bring back its annual Stars & Stripes Run-Walk for the nation’s heroes on Sunday, Oct. 2 at SUNY Polytechnic Institute.
It will mark the 10th anniversary of the event.
People of all ages and abilities are invited to participate, as the Run-Walk includes a 5K run, 5K wheelchair race, and 2-mile walk. Both the 5K run and wheelchair race will be chip timed, providing runners and racers with accurate times and instantaneous race results.
Cash prizes will also be awarded to the top three female and male runners and wheelchair racers.
This is the primary fundraiser for the Sitrin Military Program, which provides comprehensive, complimentary care to local post-9/11 veterans and service members who have post-traumatic stress, suicidal thoughts, depression, amputations, spinal cord injuries and other combat-related conditions.
Therapy and treatment options are personalized for each veteran based on military, combat, and reintegration experiences.
Registration is at 7:30 a.m., which includes a continental breakfast. Following the National Anthem, 5K wheelchair racers will start at 9:05 a.m., 5K runners at 9:10 a.m., and 2-mile walkers at 9:15 a.m.
Run-Walk registration is $30 and free for children ages 12 and under. Paid registrants receive a free commemorative T-shirt. Incentives are also available for those who raise $125, $250, $500, $1,000 or more.
