Stanwix Veterans & Men’s Club awards $5,500 in scholarships

The Stanwix Veterans & Men’s Club in Rome has announced that it has awarded $5,500 among 16 students representing nine different high schools as part of its 2021 scholarship program. Since 1991, the club has awarded $185,775 in scholarships to 506 area students.

The 2021 scholarships include nine awards which were presented to members’ children, while seven other scholarships were awarded to area students who were selected by the guidance departments of the various schools.

The award recipients of the $500 member scholarship awards are:

Emma R. Snizek, of New Hartford High School, who will attend Siena College;

Alexa M. Beaupre, of Westmoreland High School, who will attend the University of Albany;

Samantha M. Bordiuk, of Oriskany High School, who will attend Mohawk Valley Community College;

Andrew J. Smith, of Oneida High School, who will attend St. John Fisher;

Lauren O. Murphy, of Westmoreland High School, who will attend MVCC;

Shaylee R. Kiger, of Clinton High School, who will attend MVCC;

Arianna M. Traviglia, of Rome Free Academy, who will attend Monroe Community College; and

Brianna M. Jones and Brooke M. Jones, who will both attend MVCC.

The recipient of the $400.00 Colonel Eaton Scholarship Award was Patrick R. Roberts, of Oriskany High School, who will attend Herkimer County Community College.

There also were $100.00 scholarship award winners from six area high schools. Recipients of each of these awards were recognized for their hard work and effort during their high school career.

The winners of these scholarships were:

Emma Preski, of Rome Free Academy, who will attend Monroe Community College;

Lauren Murphy, of Westmoreland High School, who will attend MVCC;

Joseph Guertin, of VVS High School, who will attend Le Moyne College;

Kendall L. Sexton, of Holland Patent High School, who will attend SUNY Fredonia;

Ashley Hilts, of Camden High School, who will attend SUNY Oswego; and

Gary L. Hilterbrandt, of Oriskany High School, who will attend MVCC.
