Hanes wins NYS Mid-Amateur Championship
HAMILTON — Billy Hanes of Crag Burn Golf Club won the 38th New York State Mid-Amateur Championship at Seven Oaks Golf Club.
Hanes won by two strokes over Kyle Downey of Locust Hill Country Club, with a total score of 212 over three rounds — four under par. He was the only player in the field to fire all three rounds under par.
Jim Hirsh of Yahnundasis was the top local finisher, tied for 11th nine strokes behind Hanes. Brian Levi, also of Yahnundasis, was tied for 15th at 222.
The top 20 finishers earned an exemption into next year’s championship which will be hosted by Crag Burn, Hanes’ home club.
Joel Jakubowicz, also of Yahnundasis, also made the cut, finishing 23rd with a three-day score of 228.
