‘Spooky’ biking event to roll through Lewis County
CROGHAN — The Adirondack Foothills Cycling Club will host a Halloween fundraiser for the whole family on Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Croghan Park Pavilion, 9578 Park Dr.
The event will include fully supported group bike rides in the afternoon, followed by a costume bike parade for the kids, and a Monster Mash Party in the evening.
Organizers invite riders for any of “four ghoulish bicycle rides.” Three road routes have been mapped out for the cyclists. Participants can choose from a family friendly 15-mile route, a leg stretching 33-mile route, or a more challenging 62-mile route (62 miles is 100 kilometers, a “metric century ride”.) The fourth route is an “around the block” bike parade for the kids.
Bike-safe costumes are encouraged, and organizers said there will be prizes.
All rides begin and end at the Croghan Recreation Park, including:
- The 62-mile Panic Attack ride will start at 12:30 p.m.;
- The 33-mile Cold Sweat ride will start at 2 p.m.;
- The 15-mile Hair Raiser ride will start at 3 p.m.; and
- The Around the Block Costume Bike Parade, which is free, will start at 4:30 p.m.
- The Monster Mash Party begins at 5 pm in the Croghan Pavilion.
Cycling registration fee is $35 and includes a T-shirt (first come, first served for first 100 registrants), one hot dog and soda, and all the fun at the after party (haunted house, music, and games), which will begin at 5 p.m. at the Croghan Pavilion.
Ride times and ride registration can be found at: www.bikereg.com/bikes--frights-a-halloween-biking-event.
Family members and costume-paraders attending the Monster Mash After Party will also enjoy all the above, excluding the T-shirt, for a $5 entry fee at the door while youth age 3 and younger will be admitted free. Bike merchandise will be for sale, games, gift baskets and raffles will also available. Cash only, please. The Monster Mash party will take place no matter the weather.
The Adirondack Foothills Cycling Club is a collection of cyclists from various backgrounds and skill levels that organize group rides that are open to everyone, and support events and activities that encourage cycling. Its mission is to promote enjoyment, training, education, and advocacy for the sport of cycling to people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds in northern New York State.
As the club gears up for its inaugural Bikes & Frights Halloween Bike Event and Monster Mash Community Halloween Party fundraiser, it is seeking community support to help offset some of the many costs associated with the ride and community party as well as volunteers to help.
