VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Spartans advance in Class A girls volleyball tournament
The top-seeded New Hartford girls volleyball team advanced to the semifinals of the Section III Class A tournament by sweeping Carthage Thursday at home.
The Spartans won the sets 25-10, 25-19, 25-17.
Makenzie Desmarais had 10 kills, eight digs and a pair of aces for New Hartford. Elise Courto had nine kills, eight digs and five aces. Abby O’Connor had 27 assists, four digs and two aces.
Statistics for Carthage were not submitted.
New Hartford will play the winner of Friday’s game between four seed RFA and five seed East Syracuse Minoa at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. RFA-ESM game were not available at press time.
Morrisville-Eaton eliminates Waterville
The third-seeded Morrisville-Eaton girls volleyball swept Waterville out of the Section III Class D tournament with a three-set win at home Thursday.
Morrisville won sets 25-17, 25-11, 25-20 against the 14 seed.
Audrey German had 16 kills, four aces and four digs in the win. Lilly Kimber had 20 assists and two digs.
Statistics for Waterville were not submited.
Morrisville will host six seed Sandry Creek at noon today in the quarterfinals.
Marauders knocked out
The New York Mills girls volleyball team fell 3-1 to Class D top seed Town of Webb Thursday in the Section III quarterfinals.
The Marauders won the opening set 25-23 then lost 25-14, 25-23 and 25-19.
Lauren Abrial had 14 kills and 12 digs for Webb and teammate Jennifer Rundell had 12 kills, 13 digs, two assists and two blocks.
For New York Mills, Jasmene Duymaz had 14 kills, five blocks and three aces.
Town of Webb will play Tuesday against the winner of Friday’s game between Fabius-Pompey and Faith Heritage. Results of that game were not available at press time.
Bears blank Black Knights
The Chittenango boys volleyball team swept host Rome Free Academy Thursday in Section III league play.
The Bears won sets 25-19, 25-12 and 25-22.
Trevor Cole led Chittenango with 15 kills. Cole Thomas had 35 assists.
For RFA, Gavin Civitelli had four kills and two blocks. Lucas Yanik had three kills, 14 digs and eight assists.
RFA (6-5) went to Chittenango for a rematch Friday. Results were not available at press time.
Mustangs win close on over Bulldogs
The Mount Markham boys volleyball team won in five sets over visiting Westmoreland in Section III league play Thursday.
Westmoreland won the first two sets 25-13 and 25-18 then Mount Markham stormed back with set wins of 25-20, 25-15 and 15-4.
Robert Huntley of Mount Markham had 14 kills. Teammate Ken Escamilia had six blocks.
For Westmoreland, Carter Mcgregor had 13 assists and six aces.
MM (3-10) plays at Little Falls at 2:15 today.
Westmoreland (2-9) hosts Sauquoit Valley at 2:15 today.
Sauquoit sweeps in volleyball
The Sauquoit Valley boys volleyball team beat Cincinnatus at home Thursday in Section III play.
Sauquoit won sets 25-5, 25-10 and 25-12.
Mason Farwell had six kills, two blocks and two aces in the win. Zack Murphy had seven assists, five aces and two kills.
Statistics for Cincinnatus were not submitted.
Sauquoit (8-5) plays at Westmoreland at 2:15 today.
