MONTAGUE — A Suffolk County man was hospitalized in critical condition after his snowmobile crashed into a tree in Lewis County, according to the Lewis County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's deputies said John R. Hare, 44, of Deer Park, was riding on Trail C5 on Culpepper Road around 10 p.m. Saturday when his 2012 Arctic Cat went off the trail and crashed into a tree. Hare was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition, authorities said, before being transferred to University Hospital in Syracuse.

The crash remains under investigation.
