Snowmobiler crashes on Stillwater Reservoir
WEBB — A snowmobiler was hospitalized after crashing on the Stillwater Reservoir in Herkimer County Sunday afternoon, according to the Webb Police Department.
Police said Walter F. Thompson, of New Jersey, was riding across the frozen reservoir at 1:42 p.m. Sunday when his snowmobile struck either an ice heave or a snow-covered stump. Thompson was thrown off his snowmobile and he suffered injuries to his face and right arm, and he complained of pain in his neck and back, authorities stated.
The crash occurred near Grassy Point Island, just west of Beaver River Station.
Police and state Forest Rangers responded to the scene and Thompson was taken to the St. Elizabeth campus of the Mohawk Valley Health System in Utica.
